Robocalling has become a big problem in the United States, with tens of billions of unwanted calls being generated every year. According to a survey conducted by Consumer Reports in 2018, 70% of US consumers say they won’t answer the phone if they don’t recognize the calling number. Robocallers are using a multitude of tactics, including Caller ID spoofing, to convince the recipient to pick up the phone. Communication Service Providers (CSPs) can enhance the user experience of their customers by implementing the Nuisance Calls Identification Service (NCIS). This is powered by advanced algorithms that determine for each call, if it has the potential to be fraudulent and if so, labels it as “nuisance” or “scam”. The subscribers receiving such a call can then decide to answer it or not.
