In my current blog series, I’ve been reviewing the challenges IPX carriers face and the opportunities enabled by NetNumber’s centralized signaling and routing control (CSRC) platform TITAN. My previous post recommended how to best support number portability across every type of network and protocol. Today, I address the requirement for intelligent routing.

More and more important in today’s IPX practices is the concept of intelligent routing. This requirement is driven largely by three trends:

  • Operators are facing rapidly changing routing schemes due to the highly fluctuating interconnect tariffs.
  • New technologies are being introduced at increasingly faster pace, which is rapidly changing interconnection practices.
  • IPX customers are asking for dynamic real-time policies in support of Least Cost Routing (LCR) and Quality of Service (QoS) changes on IPX routes.

NetNumber helps IPX carriers meet these requirements by integrating TITAN with other industry products. For example, NetNumber recently announced a joint approach with NetAxis Solutions to help carriers improve the quality of real-time voice and video services in the IP networks of their customers and to cope with the effects of “blending in grey routes”. The two companies have defined a solution for providing real-time Quality of Service (QoS) control of IPX traffic. Operators can use TITAN to access real-time QoS data delivered and provisioned by NetAxis Solutions’ NEMO network monitor system. As a result, routings of IPX traffic are dynamically adjusted based on activity in the underlying data network to improve the Quality of Experience (QoE) of their services to end-users. This offers tremendous business and operational opportunities to IPX carriers.
